One of our favorite Olympians, Gabby Douglas, won big this weekend at the American Cup. Watching her on the balance beam has us anticipating the Olympics this summer.
Gabby Douglas took two years off after the 2012 Olympics. She began entering competitions last year as part of her training. Martha Karoyli, the U.S. Women’s Team National Coordinator, has helped Gabby set smaller goals to meet her ultimate goal, the Olympics. She will be entering in more competitions throughout the Spring and Summer to prepare. After reading the article on TeamUSA.org, I have one takeaway from Gabby Douglas, and that is to set long-term and short-term goals. Gabby’s long-term goal is to obtain gold at the olympics, but in order to prepare, she has to make sure she meets smaller goals and compete and win competitions at multiple levels.
Here are some quotes from the Olympian that will help us throughout our week!
-
Monday- “You just have to be yourself and go full with confidence and be courageous.”
-
Tuesday- “You know, God has a plan for me, and I’m going to follow in his footsteps and just rejoice and be happy.”
-
Wednesday- “Always be courageous and strong, and don’t fear.”
-
Thursday- “The hard work definitely paid off and hard work always does.”
-
Friday- “I’ve learned how to stay humble. I don’t want to get in over my head because when you do that it takes you off your game.”
